Cheryl McGuinness, wife of Tom McGuinness, co-pilot of American Airlines Flight 11, reveals her touching story of 9/11. Cheryl will share her message of hope from her book Beauty Beyond the Ashes. No matter what you've experienced or what pain you've suffered, God can bring you through the ashes of destruction to the beauty of life.

Summary:
Like homes that are rebuilt on the popular TV show, our Lord does the same thing for us in baptism. Christian education's purpose is to teach us to live in our new extreme makeover life.
Biography: Dr. Herzog is a graduate of Concordia, Seward and Concordia, River Forest. In 1974, he received a Masters of Divinity degree from Concordia Seminary in Springfield, IL. Dr. Herzog's passion for Christian education has led him to be involved with Lutheran ministry as a teacher, minister, and administrator for the past 42 years. He currently serves as the President of the Lutheran Education Foundation of the Lutheran High Schools.

Ben Freudenberg
Topic: Families in the 21st Century
Summary:
The family does impact the life of a child. So what has happened to families in America, and how is this impacting our children and the schools that nurture them? The Heart of Family Ministry will give a glimpse into the realities we face and a solution that sounds simple but is not easy.
Biography: Ben Freudenburg has been a Director of Christian Education for 37 years, working with children, youth, and their families to nurture their love for God and each other through the church. He is presently serving as Family Life Program Director and Professor in Family Life Studies at Concordia University, Ann Arbor and is the founder of Family Friendly Partners Network. He has served at Shore Haven Lutheran in Cleveland, Ohio, Our Redeemer Lutheran in Hutchinson, Kansas, Concordia Lutheran in Kirkwood, Missouri, and Christ Church-Lutheran in Phoenix AZ as Minister to the Christian Home. He received his B.S. in ED and certification as Director of Christian Education and Master's of Science -Family Life through Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska. He has served as President of Lutheran Education's TEAM department and as President of Lutheran Education Association, a national professional organization for Lutheran educators. He has written for a variety of education and youth journals and magazines. He has recently created the Family Friendly Partners Training Network and has led networks of churches in Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio, and Wisconsin.

Bob McKinney
Topic: Nurturing Faith in the 21st Century
Summary:
Bullying. Peer pressure. World views. Materialism. These are just some of the challenges that children today are facing. How are these things affecting our students' Christian faith? In this sectional, educators will be presented with new thoughts, ideas, and tools for addressing these challenges, both inside and outside of the classroom setting, in order to enable them to best help children become more Christ-centered and focused on His will for them.
Biography: Bob McKinney is a career Director of Christian Education, this year celebrating 41 years of DCE ministry within the LCMS. A graduate of Valparaiso University, and currently in thesis work for a Master's Degree in Christian Leadership, Bob has served in four parishes (California & Texas), two Lutheran High Schools (Los Angeles & Hong Kong), and on the campuses to two Concordia Universities (Irvine & Ann Arbor, where he is currently serving as Director of Spiritual Life). In addition, Bob has been involved in every LCMS National Youth Gathering since 1980. His wife, Eunice, is a deaconess and a two-state licensed Marriage and Family therapist. They have been blessed with two daughters - Dereem, an elementary Lutheran school teacher, and Lois, a junior at Concordia, Ann Arbor.

Summary:
Technology can be fun, engaging, and, in the hands of the right person, enhance student thinking, create opportunities to collaborate, and help make learning relevant. Come find out about the exciting tools that are available on the web with the Web 2.0 Toolbox. The first sectional will be geared toward elementary teachers while the second sectional will focus on tools and resources for middle school and high school teachers.
Biography: Tim is in his 16th year as a teacher of Math and Programming at Lutheran High North in Macomb, Michigan. He has spoken at MANS and written for "Michigan in Touch" on the topic of technology in education. He currently is the default "computer guy" at his school and works to improve student learning through technology. Tim can be reached at thardy@lhsa.com.
